GPS Assists In Recovering Stolen Vehicles - 2006/02/08

LANGLEY -- On Monday, a Surrey victim advised the Langley RCMP that early that morning he had discovered that his 1998 International five-ton truck worth approximately $300,000 had been stolen from his work site. The victim also informed police that a few weeks ago he had a private company install a GPS device on the truck and the private company had just located it in the area of 84th avenue and 206 Street in Langley. Police attended the area and located the victim's stolen truck parked in a private parking lot. While conducting their investigation, police also recovered the following:

1) 1991 Black Chevrolet Blazer – Stolen from Port Moody area in July 2004
2) 1997 International five Ton truck –Stolen from Surrey in 2001
3) Travel trailer (on the 1997 international truck) –Stolen from Ridge Meadows in September 2002

The Langley RCMP is pleased to see that more and more residents are using devices like GPS and immobilizers on their vehicles. In this case one of these devices greatly assisted police in this multi stolen vehicle recovery. It is also apparent from this incident that vehicles are stolen from various places in the Lower mainland and can end up practically anywhere after they have been stolen.

If you know anything about this incident or know anyone involved in vehicle theft or stolen vehicle and part resell (chop shops), please contact the Langley RCMP at (604) 532-3200, or, if you wish to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-tips.
